Abortionists are renowned for deliberately turning the ultrasound<br />screen away from the mother. It is simpler of course for a man to make choices that concern the state of his body - like the AFL footballer who had a troublesome finger amputated so that his football marking skill would improve and thus improve his earning capacity.<br />But for a woman to go full term of pregnancy is a lot more complicated - for a start there is the nine months of pregnancy ahead, with all sorts of changes to her body, and then follows the ante-natal time.<br />So, taken in isolation, a pregnancy has a great effect on a woman, and so she is facing a choice of great significance.<br />But consider these things:<br />Does a woman have the right to decide whether or not she will be born in the first place? No.<br />Does a new born baby have the right to decide its gender? No.<br />Does a young girl have the right to decide whether or not she will reach the age when she is physically mature? No.<br />Does a physically mature woman have complete choice as to whether or not she is capable of conceiving? No.<br />Does a physically mature woman have the right to decide whether or not her sexual act will result in pregnancy?
